What is the difference between the SteelSeries Zboard and the SteelSeries Shift?
Although the concept is the same, the SteelSeries Shift is superior in every way, shape, and form to the original ZBoard.
On the hardware level we built the SteelSeries Shift from the ground up to ensure the signature durability and sturdiness that is worthy of the SteelSeries brand. This is only achieved through meticulous attention to detail. Everything from the high-grade silicone rubber used for each rubber dome-based switch to reinforced joints on each Shift keyset, we’ve covered all bases in the development of the SteelSeries Shift.
New key hardware features include:
-On-the-fly macro recording for the 8 macro keys on the base – which allows you to make macros without leaving your game or application
-Program access keys for one touch execution of any game or application
-2 USB hub ports (1 separately powered port) and 3.5mm audio and microphone hub ports
-Enhanced “heat spots” which fine tune the force needed for key-presses on different keys. This is based on our long-term study of key-usage between various game genres.
On the software level the SteelSeries Shift is powered by our brand new SteelSeries Engine (SSE for short). The SSE features:
-A highly intuitive user interface with drag-and-drop key assignment and automatic storage of all macros that you create (which allows drag and drop assignment)
-Complete key assignment capability for all keys on each keyset as well as the macro keys on the base.
-Advanced macro capability including approx 255 character macros with added delays for ultimate customization
-An optional ‘intelligence’ module which can run in the background and record every keystroke you make. When you’re done gaming, this allows you to make informed decisions about which keys to re-assign.
Overall we’ve brought you the concept of the original ZBoard and maximized its potential in the SteelSeries Shift.
One last thing on Key-Sets. though i have only found 2 that are specifically manufactured for World of Warcraft (cataclysm, and Wrath of the Liche King). you can find key-sets customized for a variety of games. just run a search for SteelSeries Key-Sets.
